Are you worried about getting your wisdom teeth removed while you have braces? Or are you unsure if your wisdom teeth could potentially affect all the hard work you put into your orthodontia already? We have all the info to answer your questions.
According to the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, nine out of 10 patients will experience an issue with at least one wisdom tooth. The most common problem is lack of space, which can cause them to erupt at unusual angles, to crowd the other teeth, or to become impacted. An impacted tooth will remain in the jawbone and can potentially cause complications.
Wisdom teeth typically appear between the ages of 17 and 25, often after most teens have braces.
Even if you do have braces when your wisdom teeth begin to appear, it is not a big deal. You can get the teeth removed while you have braces.
As to whether wisdom teeth can cause your teeth to move, it is possible if they aren’t removed. That’s why it’s important to go to the dentist or visit your orthodontist regularly so they can keep an eye on these teeth and know when to remove them.
