Increasingly, we have adult patients coming to our office looking to straighten their smile. Maybe they had braces as children, but didn’t wear their retainers. Or, their teeth have just shifted over time. Or some people never went through orthodontia procedures, and are now ready to get a smile they’re proud of.
Invisalign is a great way to get the smile you want, without the appearance of braces. Wondering what the process is like? Here’s what to expect.
First, come in for a consultation. We’ll inspect your bite and mouth to see if Invisalign is a viable option for you. Unfortunately, for some people, traditional metal braces are necessary.
If your smile can be improved with Invisalign, we’ll make an impression of your mouth. Then, we send those molds to the Invisalign company, and they make the liners for you to wear.
You have to wait about a month for the first set of plastic liners to come in. You’ll come to the office and we’ll fit them to your teeth. We’ll also likely put small plastic pieces on your teeth that allow the liners to click into place, so they can move the teeth more easily.
You need to wear the retainers 23 hours a day – meaning only take them out to eat. If you don’t wear them all the time, the process might take longer than was originally planned.
The process can take varying lengths, depending on how much work needs to be done. If you’re curious about Invisalign, give our office a call!
