You don’t have to be a metal mouth anymore! Braces today are a far cry from what they looked like 30 years ago. Today, there are many types of braces, of different levels of visibility depending on your preference.
Traditional metal braces – These are made of stainless steel brackets and wires, with dozens of options of colored rubber bands to accent them with! Today’s metal braces are noticeably smaller than they were years ago. Now, they use heat-activated arch wires that move your teeth more quickly and less painfully, as the wires respond to the heat in your mouth.
Ceramic braces- These have the same shape and size as metal braces, but they use tooth-colored or clear ceramic brackets that blend into your teeth. You can even find tooth-colored wires for a practically invisible look.
Lingual braces – These use the same metal brackets and wires in traditional braces, but they are installed on the inside of the teeth to keep them hidden. This treatment has the best of both worlds in terms of function and visibility.
Invisalign – This is a very different system from traditional braces. It consists of a series of customized, clear plastic tray aligners (like retainers) that are removable. They are replaced every 2 weeks to keep your teeth moving. These are gaining in popularity, especially among adults.
