Olympic Athletes with Braces

Happy Olympics!

We always love watching the fun games, especially as the whole world comes together to honor these incredible athletes. Will you be watching?

First, get in the mood with some Olympics-themed rubber bands! May we suggest red, white, and blue for Team USA? Or, go for gold with metallic Gold bands.

Did you know that many athletes have competed in the Olympics while wearing braces? It’s true! These are some famous braces appearances over the years:

Lashinda Demus competed in the 400 meter hurdles in London in 2012 with clear ceramic braces, where she won a silver medal! At the time, she held the US record for the event, with a time of 52.47 seconds, the third fastest ever recorded.

Missy Franklin also wore braces during the 2012 games! The four-time Olympic gold medalist rocked orthodontia all games long – she was only 17!

You might be curious to know that these talented athletes are not great at caring for your teeth. Blame busy training and traveling schedules, but these athletes need some teeth-brushing lessons! An Olympic at the 2012 Olympic Games found that of the 278 athletes who visited the clinic, 55 percent had cavities, and three of four suffered from diseased gums.
