Invisalign for Teens Cedar Park – Difference Between Dentists and Orthodontists

SmileOn Orthodontics is proud to be part of the Cedar Park, TX community. Our focus is providing each and every patient with the smile they’ve dreamed of.  A healthy mouth is a happy mouth.

There is a difference between orthodontists and dentists. For starters, orthodontists are specialists in the field. It’s the same as a specialist as opposed to a family doctor. Dentists are trained to cover all things related to teeth and gums, but orthodontists specialize in the spacing and alignment of teeth. Orthodontists attend dental school, but then have to attend the three years of the Masters of Orthodontics school, graduating in the top of their class. In total, they spend a minimum of 11 years of post-secondary schooling and training. They have a complete understanding of your mouth, teeth, and jaws and all these conditions: overbites, underbites, cross or open bites, TMJ-pain, narrow arches, excessive spacing, breathing issues stemming from narrow airways and dental arches, and more. We also treat physical health problems that may result from jaw, facial, and tooth misalignment. Treatment with an orthodontist can address digestive problems, headaches, bone loss, and tooth damage. While dentists are fully capable professionals, orthodontists are the specialists that will help with things relating to spacing and alignment.
