Halloween Candy That’s Safe for Braces

Even though you should avoid eating candy as much as possible while you have braces, we know its Halloween, and its hard to not have a treat! While there are many candies you should not have with braces (see below), but there are a few that are pretty safe. Hold on to these when you get them in your trick-or-treat bag:

3 Musketeers
Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
Milky Ways
Classic Hershey Bars
Nestle Crunch
Kit Kats
The above candies are more braces friendly because of their softer, less sticky textures than other candy. Your braces are more fragile than you think, and can easily be damaged by eating the wrong foods!

The candy to AVOID this Halloween are ones that are hard, sticky or gooey. Anything with caramel, peanuts, taffy, gummy, and more is a no-no. The below list is just a sample of some of those candies you should avoid but there are many others!

Tootsie Rolls/Pops
Laffy Taffy
Heath Bars
Babe Ruth
Charleston Chew
Aside from potentially damaging your braces, remember that candy also has a lot of sugar, which can cause cavities. Make sure you brush and floss after eating any candy to maintain excellent oral hygiene! Your smile will thank you later.
