There are a lot of tasty foods that help improve your oral health, making your smile brighter and stronger long after you get your braces removed. Some include vitamins that encourage strong teeth, and others naturally fight bacteria. Try adding some of these foods to your diet!
Tooth enamel is hard to build back up, so make it strong now before its too late! Acidic foods and drinks can cause enamel to erode, weakening teeth. Calcium and phosphorus are both minerals that enamel needs to protect your teeth. These foods are rich in these minerals:
Foods rich in calcium: yogurt, cheese, seafood, milk, tofu.
Foods rich in phosphorus: fish, red meat, eggs, tofu, broth
Crunchy foods with a high water content also help improve your teeth, because the texture naturally scrubs and cleans teeth as you chew! Chewing also produces more saliva, which helps neutralize the bacteria that forms cavities. While you do need to be careful with crunchy foods when you have braces, some are safe options, including:
Cucumber, apples, celery, carrots (all cut up into small, bite-sized pieces)
